SANTA ANA — Experimental punk band Red Roulette is ahead of schedule. The five-piece, just a few days before the end of the year, announced the release of its album, running ahead of previously expected plans to launch it at some point in the new year. The launch stays true to the band’s general maxim of bringing to market their music as it becomes available rather than being overly precious about it and sitting on tracks.
Red Roulette is to play a release show in Anaheim Saturday, Jan. 5. with Serbia and Micron. More details can be found in the Calendar listings.
Here, singer and guitarist Brandon Mazon talks briefly about the impetus for the album:
Tell me where the name of the album came from and the meaning.
The album name comes from symbolism, in a way. Dogs have always been used to describe someone slick, untrustworthy, nihilist maybe even to some degree. Sick. We live in a world of dogs.
How long were you guys working on this?
I started writing some of the songs on the album, like “Pain Is Red,” near late 2017. We didn’t actually start recording until October of this year though.
How does it feel to be releasing this now?
It honestly feels pretty great to release something you’ve really dedicated all of your time and work into, and I’m pretty pleased with how it came out in the end.
What’s the one takeaway you hope people get from listening to this?
The one takeaway I would want people to get from the album would probably be to not trust everything they see on TV or online, but instead look into things for themselves. Might be cliché but, hey, you’d be surprised how many people don’t look into things themselves.
